Animalique by Byredo
The reason for all of the above. Honeyed, a little feral, closer to the body than a fragrance usually sits. On skin this clean it has nothing to compete with, which is exactly the point — you spent forty minutes making a blank surface, so put something on it that isn't polite.
Byredo's argument is that underneath the tailoring and the manners there is an animal, and it has been there the whole time.
It opens bright and almost polite — bergamot, lemon — and then does not stay there. The heart turns floral and powdery, violet and mimosa, the part of the fragrance that reads as skin rather than as scent. The base is where the thesis lands: suede, tobacco leaf, amber. Warm, worn, a little feral.
It is an amber floral and it belongs to whoever puts it on. Close to the body in the day, considerably less so once a room gets warm.
