The 2020 version of Dior Homme, and the one that traded the house’s famous iris for cedar and vetiver.
It opens clean and bright — bergamot, pink pepper, elemi — then turns woody at the heart with Atlas cedar, patchouli coeur and cashmere. The base is white musk, Haitian vetiver and Iso E Super, the molecule responsible for that dry, transparent woodiness that reads as skin more than as scent. Aromatic woody, a little spicy, warm rather than sweet, and it holds the same register in a boardroom and at dinner.
This is the one to own if you only own one. It is never the most interesting thing in a room and it is never wrong, which turns out to be the more useful quality.
