The alum block has been on barbers' counters for a century and nobody's improved on it. Wet the stone, glide it over a freshly shaved face, and it does three things at once: closes small nicks, tightens the skin, and takes the sting out of razor burn before it sets in. It's a mild antiseptic, so it also reads the shave back to you — if it burns, you were pressing too hard or the blade is done. Osma's is 100% crystalline alum, cut into a block that lasts months, made in France.
