René Magritte The Therapist 1937 T-Shirt
A seated figure in a cloak and a hat, and where the chest and head should be there is an open birdcage with two doves in it.
Magritte returned to this one for decades — there are versions in paint and in bronze — and it is the least explained of his major images, which he preferred. A man whose interior is a cage, and the cage is open, and the birds have stayed. Everyone who looks at it arrives at their own reading within about four seconds, and Magritte’s position was that the arriving is the work, and that a painting which can be summarised has failed.
Daddy calls this the most honest shirt in the edit. He does not elaborate, on principle.
The shirt itself is the good kind of basic: combed ring-spun cotton, preshrunk, side-seamed so it hangs straight, taped shoulders so the collar doesn’t twist after the fortieth wash. It fits like the tee you’ve had for ten years, on day one.

How to wear it
Black or deep navy tee, dark trousers, one plain jacket. Wear it somewhere with conversation in it.

Unisex cut, true to size. Women’s sizes are fitted — check the size chart and size up for a looser fit.
