Description
In 1967 Andy Warhol put a banana on the cover of a record almost nobody bought, by a band almost everybody who did buy it went on to start. The original sleeve had a peel-off sticker; underneath was the same banana, pink. "Peel slowly and see." It's the most famous piece of fruit in American art and it's been on more t-shirts than Warhol had wigs.
This is that banana. Nothing else on the shirt, because nothing else is needed.
Daddy wears his at night. Black jeans, the BYMANYC Tribeca sneakers, a black oxford open over it if you own one, the DUGALD horn-rims pushed up in his hair until it's dark enough to need them. It's the tee for the evening that has plans.
The shirt itself is the good kind of basic: combed ring-spun cotton, preshrunk, side-seamed so it hangs straight, taped shoulders so the collar doesn't twist after the fortieth wash. It fits like the tee you've had for ten years, on day one.
Curator's note
Do not wear anything else yellow. Black, white, denim — the banana is the only colour in the room.
