Description
In 1966 Bruce Brown followed two Californian surfers, Mike Hynson and Robert August, around the world — Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Hawaii, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa — chasing summer so they'd never have to surf a winter. The film became the surf film. The poster became the surf poster: three figures against a sunset that looks like it was mixed in a blender. This is that poster, on a long sleeve.
It's the one piece in the edit that doesn't need help. No oxford over it, no tee under it — just the shirt, jeans, and sneakers. Daddy wears it on the mornings that start cold and end warm, with the sleeves pushed up the moment they do. Every long sleeve in his closet has the sleeves pushed up.
The shirt itself is the good kind of basic: combed ring-spun cotton, preshrunk, side-seamed so it hangs straight, taped shoulders so the collar doesn't twist after the fortieth wash. It fits like the shirt you've had for ten years, on day one.

How to wear it
On its own with dark jeans and clean sneakers, sleeves pushed up. Or as the base layer under a graphic tee when it's properly cold — the Picasso dove over the sunset is a good day.
