Description
Lump was a dachshund who arrived at Picasso's villa in 1957 with a photographer friend and never left. He ate off the maestro's plate. He slept where he liked. He turned up in the paintings — famously in the Las Meninas series, where Picasso swapped Velázquez's mastiff for his own small, self-assured dog. Other masters put their patrons in the crowd scenes. Picasso put Lump.
This tee is the drawing: a dachshund in one unbroken line, the way only someone who could actually draw would risk it. It's the quietest dog in Daddy's closet and the one with the best pedigree.
Daddy has a rule that a man should own one shirt with a dog on it. If you only own one, own this one. He wears it on Sundays under a navy long sleeve with the sleeves pushed up so the dog shows. People will ask. Let them.
The shirt itself is the good kind of basic: combed ring-spun cotton, preshrunk, side-seamed so it hangs straight, taped shoulders so the collar doesn't twist after the fortieth wash. It fits like the tee you've had for ten years, on day one.
Curator's note
The drawing is small and precise, so it survives a lot of layering — this is the dog tee you can wear under a proper shirt to dinner.

How to wear it
Under a white oxford with the sleeves rolled, or under a navy long sleeve on a cold day. Jeans, loafers, the horn-rims. This is the dog that goes anywhere.
