Short description (listing line)

The Barking Dog Icon, 1990 — pop-graffiti street art on a 100% combed ring-spun cotton crew-neck tee. Unisex, preshrunk, Oeko-Tex certified. Daddy's second-favourite dog.

Description

A dog, mid-bark, in thick black lines. It came out of downtown New York at the end of the eighties, when the subway walls were the gallery and the drawing had to read from across a platform. The Icons Series put it on paper in 1990; this puts it on your chest. If you know, you know. If you don't, it's still a great dog.

Daddy has a rule that a man should own one shirt with a dog on it. This is the loud one. He wears it with the striped oxford open, the DUGALD horn-rims, and the BYMANYC Tribeca sneakers, and calls it a New York outfit even in Portland.

The shirt itself is the good kind of basic: combed ring-spun cotton, preshrunk, side-seamed so it hangs straight, taped shoulders so the collar doesn't twist after the fortieth wash. It fits like the tee you've had for ten years, on day one.

Curator's note

A graphic this simple wants a quiet frame. White or striped oxford over it, nothing else printed anywhere on you.
